The Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt invites applications for two full-time positions with the research project “Cities in the History of Religion”, directed by Prof. Dr. Jörg Rüpke, to be filled at the earliest possible date: 
Research Fellow

Area of Responsibility 
• Taking part in the ongoing work of the research 
• conducting monographic research highly relevant to the topic of “Cities in the History of Religion in the Roman imperial period”, with a focus on Religious Studies 
• organizing academic conferences 
• teaching load according to the Thuringian Guidelines (Thüringer Lehrverpflichtungs-ordnung), about 120 hours per year

Requirements 
• Outstanding PhD degree in Religious Studies, Classical Philology, Ancient History, Archaeology, History of Christianity or related fields 
• Active participation in the research project “Cities in the History of Religion” with a monographic research project 
• Advanced English language skills (English is the working language of the project) 
• Basic German language skills and willingness to teach in German 
• Knowledge of the relevant source languages 
 
To conduct research relevant for writing a habilitation thesis or other comparable qualification at the University of Erfurt in cooperation with the Max Weber Center, it is obligatory to be affiliated with the Max Weber Center as a full member (“Kollegiat”) and to participate in the Center’s interdisciplinary programme (in German and English).

As positions for academic qualifications, these are fixed-term positions that may be filled for a duration of up to five years depending on the legal and personal requirements according to the Law on Temporary Employment in Higher Education (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz). The minimum criteria for appointment are set out in § 84 paragraph 4 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act. Assistant Professor at the Centre for Comparative Theology

The University of Lucerne is the youngest university in Switzerland. The roots of the Faculty of Theology extend back into the 16th century. On the foundation of the Judeo-Christian tradition, professors conduct research and lecture on individual theological disciplines in an interdisciplinary dis-course with other related academic fields. The faculty recognises that the local church and the world church are connected and sees ecumenical and interreligious dialogue as a top priority. In Switzerland, the faculty takes a leading role in training theologians.

The Faculty of Theology at the University of Lucerne (Switzerland) seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Comparative Theology (50%) with immediate effect.

The assistant professor would represent the field of Islamic theology in re-search and teaching. The position is initially limited to 5 years. Candidates are expected to hold a doctoral degree and a project of a postdoctoral habilitation or an equivalent qualification. Good English skills are required.

Tasks : the applicant will:

– creativity and must be open to teaching innovation and interdisciplinarity;
– the capacities required to undertake academic research at a high level and to advise, or lead, a research team;
– good knowledge of both spoken and written French and English. If this is not the case, the applicant accept to learn French and/or English in order to be able to teach in French and English within 2 years. Fluency in other languages is an additional advantage.

Tenure-track faculty position in Muslims in America

The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities and the Religious Studies Program invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the study of Muslims/Islam in America to begin fall semester 2017 (08/28/2017).

We seek intellectually ambitious candidates with interdisciplinary aptitude, poised to become leaders in the field. A Ph.D. in Religious Studies or other related field is required by the start date, August 28, 2017. Possible areas of specialization include, but are not limited to,

The appointee will be responsible for research and teaching in the field of Study of Religions and will be expected to introduce the abovementioned focus into the Institute’s school-based and non-school-based Bachelor and Master study programs.

He/she will introduce a research focus into the area History of Interrelations of Christianity and a non-European religious tradition (Buddhism, Hinduism, African religions, or similar). In this respect the appointee will also bring into his/her teaching both (1) history of Christianity as well as (2) history of interrelations of religions in a global perspective (e.g. colonial and missionary history, globalization, migration, flight) and (3) historical method.

The appointee will be expected to pro-actively support the Institute’s internal networking and internationalization activities as well as the further development of the subject area as part of enhancing the University of Bremen’s profile in research and academic education. He/she will also be expected to have gathered experience in applying for third-party funding of research projects.

The appointee must be capable of addressing issues of gender differences in the context of subject-specific research and education with particular sensitivity.

The appointee should meet the following minimum requirements

Ø successful completion of a full course of university education; a doctoral degree with excellent results; postdoctoral experience of teaching and/or research in the subject Studies of Religion or History, or possibly in a neighbouring discipline, e.g. in connection with a junior professorship or non-university occupation,
